Resilience

The figure shows the 10 most important species with highest volume in European marine aquaculture production (green circles, underlined text), in lakes & ponds (red circles, normal text) and in marine fisheries production (blue circles, bold text) plotted against the adult species maximum tolerable temperature (°C) and vulnerability defined as susceptibility to threats (e.g. fishing).

Vulnerability of a species is based on life history characteristics and ecological traits (e.g. age at first maturity, fecundity, natural mortality rate). High vulnerability values and low temperature tolerance indicate low resilience. The size of the circle corresponds to production amount e.g. 800,000 t 140,000 t and 15,000 t in the legend.

Filled circles indicate species that ClimeFish will address in the Case Studies.
